QR Code Greeting Cards

There was a time when people exchanged cards for different occasions. Birthdays, Valentine’s, Christmases, and even ordinary days when a person crossed your mind. However, times have changed, and the popularity of greeting cards seem to have declined. Today, most people tend to exchange greetings digitally. And while we’re at it, have you heard of QR Code greeting cards?

In this blog, I’ll show you different ways to create fun and innovative QR Code greeting cards. And believe it or not, we can make it musical, too! If you’d like to know more, keep on reading.

What are QR Codes?

QR (abbreviation for quick response) Codes are a type of square barcode that can be scanned using a smartphone in any orientation. Composed of darker squares against a lighter background, QR Codes can contain a huge amount of information in different formats. Because of their versatility, we are seeing a spike in their popularity that doesn’t seem to slow down.

From being an improvement to traditional barcodes for manufacturing, QR Codes are now a popular tool in marketing different types of products and services across industries.

Who Uses QR Codes?

Everyone who has a smartphone is capable of scanning QR Codes, with millennials and Gen Zs leading the pack.

Why Create QR Code Greeting Cards?

Printed greeting cards are nice, but QR Code greeting cards also have their advantages. Some of these are:

QR Code Greeting Cards are Sustainable

No Printing

One of the main selling points of QR Codes is that you don’t have to print them, so you save money and resources. Digital greeting cards are that – digital – and the recipient has the choice to print it or not.

Reusable

You can use dynamic QR Codes over and over again, so you don’t have to create a new QR Code for every occasion.

QR Code Greeting Cards Can Be Password-protected

Sometimes, we want to limit the number of people who can read our greetings. If you opt to subscribe to QR Cloud, you can do that using QR Pages. On the settings, look for Password Protection. You can either add a password or enable sensitive content warning.

How to Create QR Code Greeting Cards

We have a couple of options when it comes to making QR Codes.

URL QR Codes

The easiest and cheapest way to create a digital greeting card is by making a mobile-optimized web page that will serve as your card. You will then publish this web page and use the URL QR Code to create the QR Code for it. If you want to make it reusable, you have to edit the whole web page and update as necessary. The downside is that the card is not downloadable, so the receiver can only access it for as long as the contents have not changed.

Image File QR Codes

Another option is using File Links. All you have to do is upload an image file or zipped folder that contains your greeting card. This is best if you want a downloadable greeting card that the receiver can keep for as long as they want. Even if you upload a different greeting card for a different occasion, the receiver already has a digital copy of the file that you have sent.

How to Create QR Code Greeting Cards with QR Pages

Here’s a step-by-step guide to how you can make a QR Code greeting card using QR Pages.

  1. First, prepare everything you need for your greeting card. I needed a short audio file, a PNG image of my greeting (made using Canva and downloaded with a transparent background), and the general design of my card.
  2. On your QR Cloud dashboard, look for the Create Link button and choose QR Pages from the dropdown menu. Encode a QR link URL or leave it blank for a system-generated one.
  3. On your settings, design the look of your QR Page. Don’t forget to click Create, and Update for every change you make on the settings.
  4. Click Add Blocks. You will be given 45 modular elements to choose from. For this example, I was making a musical card, so I chose an audio block and uploaded my music file of choice. I added an Image Block for my greeting, a Countdown Block, and a clickable link that allows the receiver to send money to my PayPal account. Because this is your card, you can add whatever you want!
  5. Once you’re satisfied with your greeting card, run a test scan and you’re done.

How to Reuse My QR Code Greeting Cards?

To reuse your QR Code greeting card for another occasion, simply go to the settings of your QR Page and redesign it as needed. You can do anything you want, except change the QR link URL, since this is the URL you have used to make your QR Code.

Alternatively, you can send your receiver to a new URL. All you have to do is look for the Advanced Settings, paste the new URL on the Leap Link URL, and click Update. You can do this as many times as you want.

Conclusion

In other blogs, we have shown you how to use QR Codes for different industries and purposes. Here, we learned that you can also use them for fun and interactive spin to your digital greeting cards. You can create a simple static QR Code that contains a URL that serves as a greeting card. Or, you can make a File Link from where receivers can download your card.
